All the best, Dr. Shashi Tharoor!

News item heard this week – Dr. Shashi Tharoor has decided to throw in his hat into the ring of politics. He will be contesting from Trivandrum (or Thiruvananthapuram as it is known now) on a Indian National Congress Party ticket.

Dr. Tharoor is an amazing writer, orator and intellect. I was first  introduced to his writings through his weekly columns in the Hindu Sunday Magazine. I subsequently picked up his books and was impressed. His vocabulary is very strong (understandable considering the international exposure). His best book to date is “India – Midnight to Millenium”. This book is a diary of modern Indian history. Some of his other famous works are The Great Indian Novel, Riot, Bookless in Baghdad etc.

Dr. Shashi Tharoor resigned as the United Nations Under Secretary general for communications after he lost the race to be the Secretary General. The current UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban ki-moon (against whom he lost) requested him to continue, but Dr. Tharoor moved on and is now in the race to the parliament.

I would have personally preferred him to have contested from his native constituency – Palakkad (I am a proud Palakkadian :)), of course my preference has no value. In his book, “India – Midnight to Millenium”, Dr. Tharoor recalls his childhood vacations in Tharoor in Palakkad, Kerala with fondness. Hope he can make it to the parliament and get a feel of the “Modern Temple of Indian Democracy”. We could definitely do with thinkers and leaders like him in the parliament.

All the best,  Dr. Tharoor!

Thiruvananthapuram is a safe and suitable place for Dr. Tharoor. He is a person who can show a miracle at Trivandrum through Developments at International level by promoting echo systems and drinking water through natural resources.
